Safety Center

A small community, held to a high standard.

yuMeet is limited to York University students over 18. That is a deliberate limit, and it is what makes the community worth being in. Here is exactly how it works.

Who gets in

Four checks, every time.

None of these are optional, and none of them can be skipped by creating a new account.

A confirmed campus email

You cannot create an account without a campus email address, and the address has to be confirmed with a code we send before the account exists.

  • The domain has to match a supported institution
  • The address is confirmed before the account is created
  • We store the address so we can re-verify it later

An age check at sign-up

You give your date of birth when you register. The check runs on the server, so it cannot be skipped by changing the app.

  • Under-18 registrations are refused at the point of creation
  • The age is stored on the account and shown in the app
  • There is no manual override for this one

A human review, when you want a badge

Students who want a verified badge can submit a student ID or a supporting document instead. A person reviews it.

  • Your document is stored privately and never shown to other users
  • A failed check can never be promoted to verified automatically
  • You can ask us to delete a submitted document

An account that can be closed

Accounts can be suspended and banned, and a ban can carry an expiry date. Both are reversible by a person, never by a script.

  • Suspended accounts cannot sign in
  • Bans can be time-limited rather than permanent
  • Every administrative action is written to an audit log
What you can do

Report it, or block them.

You do not have to email anyone to raise a problem. Reporting is built into the places where problems happen.

Report

Raise a report on a post, a comment, a study session, a marketplace listing, a message, or a profile. Your report goes into the moderation queue.

  • Every content type has a report action
  • Reports are reviewed by the team
  • You can block someone at the same time

Block

Blocking takes effect immediately. It stops the other person messaging you and removes them from your view of the app.

  • Immediate effect, not a request
  • Manage your block list in Settings
  • A blocked account cannot reach you again

Ask a question

Anything that is not a safety issue can go to our support inbox. If you are not sure which one applies, email us and we will route it.

  • contact@yumeet.ca
  • We read every message
  • Urgent safety issues should be reported in the app first
Child safety

What happens if a child is involved.

yuMeet is for adults. These are the steps we take when something tells us otherwise.

18 and over, enforced at sign-up

Every account is age-checked when it is created. An account that reports an age under 18 is rejected at registration rather than reviewed afterwards.

If an account is under 18

We suspend it, we delete the personal information we hold for it, and we keep the records needed to handle the report properly.

If a report involves a child

We suspend the account immediately, preserve the relevant records, and cooperate with Canadian law enforcement and the relevant child-protection authority.

Plainly stated

What we do not do.

We would rather list the limits than let you assume capabilities we have not built.

We do not run automated image or text scanning. Moderation here is people reading reports.

We do not publish user, club or event counts on this website. We would rather show you the product.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We do not promise a response time we cannot yet keep. In-app reports reach the moderation queue directly.

Need to reach a person?

For anything urgent, email contact@yumeet.ca and we will route it to whoever needs to see it. For a safety report on specific content, using the in-app report button is faster because it reaches the moderation queue directly.
